I saw the promo for today’s episode and I was hoping that they weren’t going to say that a c-section is better. It was for that reason I just couldn’t bring myself to watch. So many doctors, including my own unfortunately, are into convenience births. They want a birth to happen during business hours on Thursdays. So frustrating. I can’t believe they are going so far as to say a c-section is better. Huge fail in my book.

I had a c-section with my first and a VBAC with my second. I didn’t need an episiotomy and I didn’t tear at all on the outside. But, on the inside, I was shredded and still couldn’t sit without crying 4 months after birth. I ended up having a second surgery to fix painful keloid scarring. A year after birth, it still hurts occasionally depending on movement. I have honestly gone back and forth, trying to decide what I’ll do next time. I know that for my body, a vaginal birth is much healthier. But, for my mind and need to move on with my life after birth, I actually healed much more quickly with a C-section. That said, I know I am a very small percentage of women. If the dr.’s had been addressing these complications, they maybe would have a leg to stand on in suggesting a C-section is better. I do agree that a vaginal birth is, hands down, the best bet for the majority of women. I’m shocked and appalled they would even begin to suggest otherwise. Drs like that are the reason why C-section rates are so insanely high in the US.

This amazes me… as a NICU nurse, I see the detrimental the effects of C-section vs. vaginal birth for the baby, as well as the “elective/convenience”- and often late preterm- CS deliveries. It makes me so mad to think that there is a doctor (female, no less!) who is publicly encouraging and influencing women for major surgery over a natural vaginal birth!
You’ve got to be kidding! I have never heard a c-section was anything but a major surgery. It’s crazy to me that they would say a vaginal delivery was “worse.” What exactly is worse about it? Healthier? Easier recovery? I had my daughter vaginally, so I dont know what it’s like to have a c-section but I’ve never heard it was not worse than the alternative.
That’s insane. Of course a vaginal birth is better! Holy cow. I have to have c-sections, but that doesn’t mean I like it. I would prefer vaginal. It’s almost been a year since my last c-section and I’m still trying to build my stomach muscles back up.

Oh wow crazy. I have had a c/s with my first, completely unnecessary and horrible, and really messed me up mentally for a long time. My second was born at home, and it was healing for my first sons birth. The c/s was far worse.

I had a 4th degree episotomy/tear with E. during a mid-forceps delivery. One end to the other. Stitches for days- the dr stopped counting at 100. Stitches in my vaginal wall and cervix. It took me almost 6 months to heal to the point where I could sit on a hard surface. Let’s not even talk about sex. The stitching- wasn’t even. It tore every time.
When B was born 17 months later, he was 3 lbs heavier and there was no tearing or anything. Go figure. I continued to have issues.
I wasn’t fully ‘healed’ from E until O was born- and only because the OB knew of my issues and did some repair work down there during/after delivery.

I had a third degree tear to the front and a total of 40 stitches with my first vaginal birth. It was a disaster. My second vaginal was wonderful. I had to have an episiotomy due to the previous tearing and scarring and required 2 stitches. Recovery was fantastic. Even with my first terrible vaginal experience the thought of a C section terrifies the living crap out of me. I would do anything in my power to avoid one and during my last birth when C section was brought up… it brought me to tears Did she mention which is better for the freaking BABY!?!?!?! like the fact that being squished through the birth canal is GOOD for the baby and C sec babies run a much higher risk of having fluid in their lungs…. I was REALLY Ticked that she didn’t discuss the benefits for the baby. I feel like she’s just all about lining her own pockets – health of the baby, and the mother for that matter, be damned. I’m sure having a severe tear is horrendous but a C-Section is major surgery. How could that possibly EVER be better? I just don’t get it.
They lost my daughter’s heart beat when I was in labor with her but they moved me around and waited a minute and it came back. I was panicking the whole time about a C-Section but natural birth prevailed. HURRAY!
Firstly, I think if you’ve never had a C-Section you should not be so opinionated against it.
Secondly, Dr. Lisa is a OB/GYN – She is very experienced in delivering babies both vaginally and with c-sections.
People should be listening to the opinion of a qualified OB/GYN not this junk which seems to be heavily weighed to one side.

I have four children, have had three deliveries- ALL C-section. Our first was a C-section because our son was breech. With our second I had the choice of doing a V-BAC and to tell you the truth, the thought of having a natural delivery scared the crap out of me so when I found out that the hospital I wanted to delivery at did not do V-BACs, I was more than happy to have another C-Section. And I had twins the third time around, and after 2 previous C-Sections I did not have a choice.
I think there are many aspects of C-Section deliveries that ARE EASIER than natural birth. I got to schedule the birth date of all of my children (although I did labor with our daughter the morning of her planned section), there is no question of anesthetic- I was not in pain while I watched my children being born. contrary to what lots of people think, I WAS able to hold my babies and nurse them.
Now with all that being said, I do think that the recovery of a C-Section is definitely harder. yes, it is major surgery, and it is painful to walk around at first. But I would take a c-section cut over an episiotomy any day.
The point is, everyone’s experiences and opinions are different. And to you I say, get a life and get off the internet! Clearly you feel that your opinion is the only correct one and that is what’s so sad about our world; everyone is entitled to their opinions and beliefs, but everyone needs to accept that not everyone will agree or even like what we think and believe.
