Kyle and I have been married for three years. The first year that we were married, he was working full time opening a restaurant in a hotel and had horrendous hours. In addition, he was finishing his final semester of college. I was home by myself OFTEN. One night, someone broke into my car. The next morning, I freaked the freak out. I told Kyle that I needed a Great Dane IMMEDIATELY. I wasn’t kidding.
I’ve been begging for one ever since but unforseen events keep happening that don’t allow me to get a pup.
- We had Madilyn
- We moved
- We had Grady
I don’t know if I could handle a newborn and a puppy and give each the attention that s/he so deserves.
So I’m still without puppy.
This Christmas, we talked about it again but Kyle’s new excuse is that we don’t have a fence. His tried-and-true excuse is that I have enough on my plate in the way of my 3 kids, being Styles’ room representative, and writing this blog. I told him he’s wrong and that I absolutely CAN handle a dog on top of the rest of my responsibilities.
His response to me?
Done. The challenge is ON. Initially, I was going to teach the Great Dane that I dog sit at least once a month. I was talking to his “daddy” about it and I found out that Scuba has a grain allergy! SHOOT! Plus, he doesn’t really LIKE treats. I know, weird. So instead, I’m using my friend & best neighbor in the WORLD’s dog, Boudicca.
I got some Milk-Bone® Treats because according to Boudicca’s brothers, those are her favorites. I also wanted to try out some Lean Pup-Peroni because those were MY dog’s favorite treats when she was still alive. And then I ran into some Milo’s Kitchen treats on the end cap and had to get some chicken jerky because it made MY mouth water. No joke. I wanted treats that Boudicca would love and that were healthy for her too. She’s an active dog but she still has to watch out for her girly figure!
Because I’m so familiar with our Walmart, I knew exactly where the treats were. The only issue I had was finding the Milo’s Kitchen treats but as I left the aisle when I was about to give up, I saw them at the very end. WOOT!
So just hang onto your ponytails, people. Let’s see if I’m able to teach an old dog new tricks with the treats that I picked up on my excursion to Walmart last night.
I’ll let you know how it went next Thursday. And then, I can’t wait to #ILoveMyK9..my OWN K9, that is.
